Mixed Media Zines

Some zines don't really belong to one medium.They might start with photographs, then pick up a pencil, a paintbrush, a piece of old paper or something found along the way. A digital layout might get printed, cut up, drawn over and scanned again. A photograph might sit next to a handwritten note, a collage, a photocopy or an illustration. Mixed media is really about letting different ways of making things exist together.There are no strict rules about what belongs on the page. You can combine digital and analog techniques, finished work and scraps, photographs and drawings, found materials and things you've made yourself.I like the fact that the process can go back and forth. Make it. Print it. Cut it. Change it. Scan it. Make something new from it.The result doesn't have to look perfectly polished. Sometimes the little inconsistencies are what make a mixed media zine feel alive.
